Unit Objectives:

Work Effectively in the Financial Services Industry

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to correctly interpret and apply industry and organisation procedures, guidelines, policies, ethical standards and sustainability requirements to day-to-day work in the financial services industry. You will gain skills and knowledge in the following areas:

Financial services industry guidelines, procedures and legislation

Communicate in the workplace

Work as part of a team

Apply Principals of Professional Practice to Work in the Financial Services Industry

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify industry professional approaches to procedures, guidelines, policies and standards, including ethical requirements and model and meet expectations of these in all aspects of work. You will gain the following skills and knowledge:

Identify the scope, sectors and responsibilities of the industry

Identify and apply financial services industry guidelines, procedures and legislation

Manage Information

Plan work to be completed taking into consideration time, resources and other constraints

Develop and maintain personal competency

Participate in OHS Processes

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to participate in workplace occupational health and safety (OHS) processes to protect workers own health and safety, and that of others.

. You will gain the following skills and knowledge:

Work safely

Implement workplace safety requirements

Participate in OHS consultative processes

Follow safety procedures

You are required to maintain a portfolio of your completed work on your own USB. See

Assessment Portfolio Requirements and instructions below. Holmesglen Institute will not run a final examination in this subject however the Portfolio will be checked by Holmesglen throughout the semester.

Students will be will be graded PX (Pass) or N (Fail or not yet competent) for the subject.

Results:

PX= Pass (no higher grade available)

N = Fail (not yet competent)

Student responsibilities:

·  Use only English in classes as this course is delivered and assessed entirely in English.

·  Attend a minimum of 80% of classes.  Assessments may not be allowed if attendance is below 80%.

·  For successful completion of this unit, ALL portfolio requirements must be completed and saved on your USB.

·  For successful completion of this unit, all assessments must be attempted and passed.

·  You will be expected to study outside of class for this unit.

·  Participate in all class and homework activities.

·  Be on time for all classes.

Teacher responsibilities:

  • Only English should be used in teaching this subject, as this course is delivered and assessed entirely in English.

  • The content of the attached semester planner must be followed closely in the delivery of this subject as all assessment will be based on this content.

  • To sign off Assessment Portfolio Checklist for each student when he/she has successfully competed a portfolio requirement.

  • To complete each Portfolio Assessment Checklist for each student when the assessment is submitted.


Instructions for Completion of Assessment Portfolio Checklist and Student USB

  1. The teacher will keep a copy of the checklist for each student in the class

  1. When each assessment is completed by a student the teacher will check that it is correct and sign and date the checklist. Exercises should be signed off throughout the semester, not on the last day of class.

  1. To pass the subject all exercises must be completed correctly by the student and signed off by the teacher. Teachers should see the student actually undertaking the exercise in class before signing off on it.

  1. Exercises that are to be completed for the student’s portfolio should not be set for homework. Other exercises in chapters may be completed for homework. This is to avoid students copying from each other out of class.

  1. All exercises are to be saved to the student’s USBs. The teacher is to check this. If any exercise is missing from the USB the teacher cannot sign off on it.

  1. Students are to submit paper copies of each assessment that is well presented and correctly formatted. It must also be received on time.

  1. Holmesglen teachers may check the student’s portfolio of work at any time during the semester by viewing the student’s USB.

  1. At the end of the semester all checklists and USBs must be provided to the Program Coordinator who will give them to Holmesglen Invigilators. USBs will be returned to the coordinator after being checked by Holmesglen invigilators.
